How to stop electrical interference?

i bought a BELL speedometer for a mountain bike that has an 2 stroke engine on it. the speedometer works when the engine is off, but when i start the engine the screen stops working, then when i shut it off it works again. i was thinking it is electrical interference from the magneto. Ive tried shielding it but it only halfway works. how could i fix this problem? any ideas?
