2002 Dodge Neon, 4-door, 4 cyl. engine with air ... replaced bad battery but now the ...?

speedometer and oil gauge indicator stopped working. Both fuses checked good. A couple of times both the speedometer and oil gauge indicator came on and worked for a short while, then stopped completely. I'm wondering if the onboard computer needs a 'code' to reset the speedometer and oil gauge indicator? Or, are there other possibilities?
